On the Accidental Wings of Dragons Review

Happy Wednesday!

 I hope everyone has had an amazing week so far. Today I am going to be doing a review of On the Accidental Wings of Dragons by Julie Wetzel. This story is about a solider being accidentally turned into a dragon when he goes to save a dragon Princess. The adventure that they go on will leave you laughing, and rooting for them. You will be on the edge of your seat wondering what they will get into next, and how they will get out of their predicament.

I don't want to give too much of the story away, because I think that the description gives you a pretty good idea about what the book is about. But Carissa is one strong Princess who can take care of herself, and doesn't need a man to protect her. I love that more authors are creating strong female characters that anyone can relate to. Plus, Michael doesn't try to control her, and accepts her for the way she is, which I love. No wonder people think I have unrealistic expectations in men, but hey there has to be a man out there that fits the mold of these fictional characters.

Once Upon A Dream Review

Happy Monday!

 I hope everyone had an amazing weekend! I am excited about the reviews and other posts I have in store for this week. So let's get this amazing week started off with a retelling of Sleeping Beauty. Once Upon a Dream by Liz Braswell, is an amazing remake of the tale of Sleeping Beauty that we all know and love, except it has a twist to it.

In the original tale of Sleeping Beauty the Prince defeats the dragon, and rescues Aurora from her curse. But what if when the Prince went to awake Aurora he feel into a deep sleep curse of his own, and becomes trapped within the same dream as Aurora? Aurora is lead on a twisty adventure to find a way back to herself, while trying to figure out just who she is. When she meets Phillip along the journey she has to learn to trust him. Can she trust him to help get them both out of the nightmare or is he just another pawn of Maleficent's that will lead her on a wild goose chase?

This version of sleeping beauty had me enraptured from the very first word. It stays true to the story we all know and love, but the twist that Liz puts on the original story gives the reader a new found respect for Aurora. No longer does Aurora have to have a man to save her from her sleeping curse, but in this story the Princess gets to take her own story into her hands, which helps women see themselves as capable of saving themselves, without having to wait for a Prince's kiss.

Southern Spirits Review

Happy Friday Readers!

 Today I wanted to review a light paranormal book to end the week on a good note. Southern Spirits by Angie Fox, is a novel that gives you all of the emotions. You get ghosts, romance, laughter, and pet skunks. When I started reading this book I honestly couldn't put it down, and stayed up half the night to finish it, because I had to see how it ended.

Verity is hated by the town she lives in because she decided to leave her slim ball of a fiancee at the alter. However when she accidentally traps a gangster ghost on her property, her world is turned upside down. When she is with the ghost she is able to see the other side, and see spirits. She learns to use this ability to help Ellis, the town Sheriff and her ex's brother. But will she be able to solve the mystery or will this mystery lead to her doom?

Verity has been put through a lot and has to change her life around to find a new job to support herself, and her pet skunk. You will love Verity and her no nonsense, won't take nobody's crap attitude. You also get to learn why she left the most eligible bachelor at the alter, and may even fall in love with the gangster ghost, Frankie. This book had me laughing out loud, and wishing I had my own gangster ghost to go on adventures with. If you love feel good stories with mystery thrown in, than this book needs to be on your shelf. This is one who done it that you don't want to miss! Plus there is many more adventures to come if you love this one!

Why I Don't Have A Favorite Genre

Happy Thursday!

 Today I decided to do a different post than what I have done before. I always get the question posed to me of what my favorite genre is, and I honestly have to say I love every type of genre. I love reading YA, Romance, Historical Fiction, Biography, Memoirs, Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Fiction, True Crime, Mystery, recently getting more into poetry, and lots more categories. I know that some people do have a favorite genre, and honestly that is okay. I have learned that a lot of people only like to read certain books, and that is fine. As long as you love what your reading, and your reading than there is nothing wrong with it. My grandfather for example loves reading classics and biographies.It's just that I am slightly more different in deciding what I am going to read.

The first thing that draws me to a book is honestly the cover. When I see a cover that draws me in, I pick up the book and read the description. If the description seems really interesting to me than I will buy the book. However, even through a book does have a pretty cover, after reading the description my attention isn't caught than I won't buy the book, and will place it back on the shelf. I have also started to download samples of books on my Kindle that I maybe on the fence about, so I can see if it's a story that will capture my attention, before I spend the money to buy the book.

I also have to be in the mood to read a certain type of book, which I have learned is okay, because I know when the mood strikes I will have the chance to enjoy it. By doing this I have actually discovered many books that I have absolutely fallen in love with, and some I haven't really liked. I also love recommendations that are provided to me by co-workers and friends, which have also led me to authors that I have fallen in love with, and continue to read them when they put new books out.

Now granted, when I read biographies, they are normally on topics that I am interested in, however I am open to reading other one's it's just that I know these books will catch my attention more. It is also in my opinion that if I would have settled only on one genre than I would have missed so many amazing books and I would have missed so many amazing adventures that I have been on.

If you are like me and read any book that grabs your attention, no matter what genre it is, know that it is okay not to have a favorite, and it is okay to tell people I like every genre. When you love every genre, you get to go on so many adventures, and learn things you never knew before. Reading is a journey to various places with no end, and allows you to escape reality with each turn of the page. As long as we have books, and people love what they read, then no judgement should be passed on people who chose to live several lives. Never be embarrassed  by what you are reading. If you love it than you go ahead and read until your little heart is content. Don't afraid to be who you are and to read what you want, because you may just find your reading soulmate!

 Today I decided to do another fun facts about an author post, since I have done one in a while. Today I am going to be providing fun facts about Agatha Christie, who is known to be one of the best mystery writers. Not a lot of people know a lot about Agatha Christie, and I hope that some of the facts I provide today will help people understand her and read more of her books.

Under Different Stars Review

  I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend, and is ready to start another week! Today I wanted to review a book that I recently read and loved. Under Different Stars by Amy Bartol had me laughing, crying, and on the edge of my seat to see what happened next. I could't put this book down that I actually finished it in a couple of days, because it is that good!

Kricket just wants to make it on her own until her 18th birthday, so she can be free to live her life without having to worry about case workers. She wants to be able to settle down and find a home to call her own. However, when she is on her way home one morning from work, she discovers that her identity has been compromised and people are after her. She has to figure out how to hide from the two groups that are trying to grab her to take her to her rightful home, and another group who wants to take her home to answer for her crimes. When she is taken by one of the groups lead by Trey, she is taken on one wild adventure that will have her guessing everything she knew about her family and everything she knew about herself. Can Kricket learn to trust Trey or will she be betrayed and have to save herself like she always does?

Kricket is a strong female character, who has survived so much that she doesn't know who she can trust, and knows that she has to protect herself at all costs. She doesn't take any crap off of anyone, and some of the things she says and does will have you laughing and crying. Amy brings the reader into an imaginative futuristic world, that you will believe you are experiencing Kricket's journey and emotions right along with her. Trey is a complicated character, however along the journey you get to understand why he acts the way he does, and somewhere along the line you start to fall in love with him a little. If you like adventure, romance, strong female characters, and a story line that will leave you guessing until the very end, then this book is for you!

The Frog Prince Review

Hey guys it's Friday!

 I figured that I would finish the week off with a retelling of a classic fairy tale. The Frog Prince by Jenni James is a wonderful retake of the classic Frog Prince that we have all came to know and love. This book gives the reader an interesting twist on how a prince turned himself into a frog, in order to discover who his betrothed really is.

Prince Nolan decides that he wants to meet the woman he married to see what exactly he is getting himself into. He decides that he needs to be turned into a frog, because it would give him the advantage to see just how Princess Blythe really is. When he gets turned into a frog and finds the Princess, he realizes that he got more than he bargained for, and is willing to see it to the end. Will Prince Nolan get his happily ever after or will he be forced to remain a frog forever?

This story had me laughing, and honestly gave me a new appreciation for The Frog Prince story in general. You will fall in love with Prince Nolan, and you get to see inside Princess Blythe's soul where you will be able to make your own judgement. Jenni takes the reader into a wonderful world and makes this fairy tale perfect for a newer generation. If you love fairy tale retellings, this is one retelling that you won't want to miss.

  So I decided to do a different type of post today than what I have recently done. I wanted to list some books that I am looking forward to reading in 2019. This is the year where a lot of amazing books are going to come out, and I am excited to read each one of them!  So today I will be reviewing a book that had me mesmerized and captivated until the very end. The Secret Daughter of the Tsar: A Novel of the Romanovs by the amazing Jennifer Laam. This book was the best book I have read in 2019 so far, plus I have always been obsessed with the story of the Romanovs, which lead me to getting this book in the first place.

I know a lot of people are hesitant about reading books that are told from multiple characters point of view, however the way Jennifer transports the reader over different timelines is so seamless that the story just keeps flowing together, and all of the empty spaces are filled in perfectly. The story starts with Lena who's timeline is the same as the Romanovs, Charlotte is after the tragedy of the Romanovs, and Veronica's is present time. These three women are each special and strong in their own right, and their stories play a bigger role in the novel. I'm trying not to say too much about this book, because I don't want to give anything away, because trust me when the bomb is dropped, you won't see it coming until the moment Jennifer wants you to. Let's just say when I read it, I was screaming in the bathtub.

This story made me laugh, cry, and think about the possibility of this being true. The tragedy of the Romanovs was horrible, but Jennifer provides the reader with a historical fiction novel, that does not romanticize or disrespect the tragedy in any sort of form. If you love stories that make you get lost in time, with mystery, suspense, and just love history, you need to read this amazing book!

The Cold King Review

 Today I am going to be reviewing The Cold King by Amber Jaeger, which is a different way to look at the story of Beauty and the Beast. This story took me on a wild ride that I had no intention of getting off until I reached the end, which I did lose a lot of sleep reading it, but hey it was 100% worth it.

All Calia wants to do is make sure her younger siblings are taken care of, because her mother is too lazy and self absorbed to take care of them herself. Calia doesn't feel appreciated by her family, and it seems that her mother is always trying to get rid of her. When the chance comes to send a new servant to the Cold Kings castle, Calia's mom jumps at the chance for riches, and to get rid of her daughter. When Calia is deposited at the castle, she sees it as a new challenge to escape the life she previously had. However as she gets to know the Cold King she starts to learn that not everything is as it seems, and that just maybe he is as stuck as she is. With both of them in a situation they never wanted or asked for can they help each other survive or be stuck in their unwanted situations forever?

This book is so beautifully written by Amber that the reader is brought on a wild adventure, and with the detailed description, you will be transported into the castle with Calia. What I really loved about this book is it took the story of Beauty and the Beast, and put a spin on it, while keeping to the spirit of the original story. Any lover of Beauty and the Beast  needs to read this amazing story, and get lost in the Cold King's castle.

2019 Goals For My Blog

Hey Guys!

  So I know I am a little slow in getting this out, but better late than never, and I had to think about what I wanted from this blog. I also had to sit down and think about why I started this blog in the first place. The reason I started the blog is because I love reading, and want to share my love of reading with fellow readers. But when you think about it the only way that you can reach fellow readers, you have to get your blog out there. I started figuring this out, and noticed that I needed to be active on more social media sites, where I can hopefully bring more people to my blog. I also started following fellow bloggers on Twitter, and when they started doing blog follows, pintrest follows, Facebook, and Instagram follow posts I started to participate in this as well. I also learned about Bloglovin through those posts, and found that I could connect my Bloglovin profile to my blog, which has helped a lot. I don't have a lot of followers on my blog as of now, but that is what goal setting is for.

So without further waiting, my blog goals for 2019 are as follows:

1. Get more followers to follow my blog
2. Be more active on Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, and Facebook
3. Reach out to more authors in my posts by tagging them in Twitter posts. This is to help get my reviews out there and get more people interested in my blog
4. Try to get on WordPress, because this seems like the most popular outlet for bloggers
5. Make more time between work to work on my blog and research how to get my blog out in the universe
6. Make business cards with my blog information on it, and pass them out to authors when I go to Comic Cons to get more attention
7. See if I can continue doing my blog on blogspot, and have a WordPress blog going at the same time (I am going to test this theory, but may have to figure out which one works better, if I can't keep up with both of them)
8. Figure out more interesting, book related things to blog about on Tuesdays and Thursdays when I don't do book reviews

These goals are to help make my blog successful and get it out in the wide world of the internet. I also want to read more books throughout the year, so I can get more book reviews out there. I am going to work hard on these goals, because I want to make this blog as successful as possible, but I also have to understand that it may not get a lot of followers, which is okay because I am doing something I love and am passionate about. Reading books and writing are two of my passions and I am so happy that I get to do both with this blog!

The Darkest Star Review

  I hope you all had a wonderful, relaxing weekend! Today I am going to be reviewing a book, that I absolutely loved. The Darkest Star by Jennifer L. Armentrout is the first book in her new Origin series, and let me tell you it's a good start!

Evie Dasher is just a girl trying to survive the world, and get through High School. When she goes to a club where aliens are known to frequent, she meets Luc, who will test her patience. When she stumbles upon Luc she begins a wild journey where the truth will send the world she thought she knew down a spiraling rabbit hole. Once Evie learns the truth, she will have to learn if she can embrace the truth or if she wants to live in denial.

This book brings characters from her previous series into the story, however you don't have to have read the previous series to understand what is going on in this book. I didn't read the previous series, and while I was reading The Darkest Star I wasn't lost as to what was going on. Jennifer provides the reader with a detailed background as to what happened, so that you can feel confident reading this book without reading the previous series. This book had me interested from the first sentence, and kept my attention until the very end. This book will make you laugh, cry, and want to punch Luc a couple of times. When the twists and bombs drop, I guarantee you won't see them coming until Jennifer wants you to!

If you like adventure, comedy, sexy aliens, and a female character who learns who she really is, then this book is for you. It made me want to read the other series, so I can see if Luc was a butt butt in that one too. But trust me, Luc is a butt butt in this one, but there is a reason behind it, and he is actually a sweet guy! I can't wait for the second book to come out to see where Evie and Luc go next!

The Iron Butterfly Review

Happy Fri-yay!

 We have made it to Friday, and I have to work tomorrow, but oh well. Today I am reviewing The Iron Butterfly by Chanda Hahn. This is another book where the main character is in a difficult situation, and has to find the strength to survive a world where someone wants her as an experiment.

Thalia just wants to live her life, and doesn't want to become a test subject. She decides that she needs to escape and she needs help to do it. When she finds two guys to help her, she never expects to find love and a twisting journey along the way. Will she be able to hide from the evil cult or will they catch up with her and put her through unimaginable torture?

This novel takes the reader into a world of wonder and intrigue. You will be rooting for her to end up with one person, and than changing your mind in the mist of it. I couldn't put this book down, because I had to know what happened next. I am happy to admit this is one book I stayed up late to finish, and was so happy that it is part of a trilogy. Once I finished this one, I had to buy book two just to continue the journey with characters that I had come to know and love!

 I have made it no secret of how much I love Mr. Darcy, and the book Pride and Prejudice. Today I wanted to share with you all a fun rocktastic retelling of my favorite Austen book ever! Fitzwilliam Darcy, Rock Star by Heather Lynn Rigaud, is one of the best retellings of Pride and Prejudice that I have ever read!

Imagine if Elizabeth and Darcy were thrown into the modern world and became rock stars. This is exactly what this book gives you while still staying true to the original story. All the characters that you know and love are back, and all the love/hate relationships are still there, they are just thrown in with a mix of rock and roll. I am trying not to give too much away, because I don't do spoilers, but I want to make sure that people understand how amazing this book is. I will admit I was skeptical when I first picked up this book, but when I started reading I was not disappointed, and I couldn't put it down. It will have you dreaming of Mr. Darcy in tight pants for years to come. This is one story you would want to read over and over again. This novel allows the wonderful story of Pride and Prejudice to be presented to a whole new audience. This is one novel Jane Austen would be proud of.

Hey Guys!

 I just wanted to say welcome to 2019 my fellow readers! I hope you all have the best year of your lives, and become more than what you were in 2018. I am definitely going to try to be my better self, and not let a lot of things affect me in a negative way. I am grateful for 2018 because it gave me a new job, my Bachelor's degree, and it gave me the confidence to start this blog! I can't wait to see what 2019 has in store for me, and where my blog goes this year! I hope everyone has a joyous and prosperous New Year!

Flame in the Mist Review

Happy New Year's Eve Guys!

 Today I wanted to review a book that I just finished reading, and I actually finished it in two days because I could not put it down! Flame in the Mist by Renee Ahdieh takes the reader on one wild adventure of one girls journey to find who she really is in life, and where she belongs.

The description was taken from the Goodreads website:

Mariko does not accept her fate of being a pawn for her family to gain power, and force her to marry some Prince she has never met. She knows that there is more out there for her, however she doesn't want to let her family down. When her convoy is attacked while taking her to her fiance, she barely escapes with her life, and makes it her mission to figure out who would want her killed. In so doing she is lead down a path of self discovery that she never thought was possible. She also is put in several positions where she must decide if she should follow her heart or protect her family.

What I loved most about this story is being drawn  into a different culture, and the story being told from multiple characters points of view. You think that some stories being told from multiple points of view would get confusing, but it doesn't, and it allows the reader to see different versions of the story throughout the book.You will laugh, scream, feel pain, and be shocked when the ending is reveled. Yes it ends on a slight cliff hanger, however the second book Smoke in the Sun is already available so you don't have to wait that long to continue this amazing story.

Take a long needed journey to find your inner warrior my friends!

Rising Review

Happy of Happiest Friday's Everyone!

 I hope everyone's week was a good one. Today I wanted to review an amazing book that I stumbled upon one day while looking at kindle books, and after reading the description I knew I had to see what happens. Rising by Holly Kelly takes the reader on an adventure on land, as well as, an adventure under the sea.

 "In a war between the humans and the inhabitants of the sea-humans will lose. Xanthus Dimitriou-the most lethal Dagonian to rise from the ocean-is on a mission to save mankind from annihilation. But first there's one small thing he needs to do... kill a beautiful young woman in a wheelchair. Killing her doesn't start out as part of his plan. He entrenches himself deep in the human world. Aligning himself with his enemies, he prepares to send them to Triton to face their punishment. Then Sara Taylor rolls onto the scene. Xanthus knows at once she's a criminal. And her crime? Being born. She's a human/Dagonian half-breed, an abomination. Killing her should be an easy job. All he has to do is break into her apartment, slit her throat, and feed her body to the sharks. All Xanthus knows is that he was given a mission, and he is meant to see it through. When he comes on land with a pair of legs, he creeps into Sara's house with the only thought being to kill her. However, when he sees her he can't help but fight his killing instinct, and a power of protectiveness feels him to his core. Sara maybe in a wheelchair, however she has a mighty fine attitude, and she doesn't take no crap from anyone. She just wants to live a normal life, but feels like something is missing in her life. When she meets Xanthus, she discovers that missing part and what her true destiny is. However, will she be able to trust him to protect her, and take her to her rightful home or will she just feel like an outsider forever?

This book is told from two points of view, Xanthus's and Sara's. I like when books do this, because I feel like you get more of the story that way. Holly drags the reader into the story, and makes you wish that you could grow a fin, because when she describes the underwater part it is so amazing. If you are a fan of mermaids, strong female characters, a good love story, and a story where characters find where they truly belong, than this book is for you!
