Books That Were Turned Into Movies Or TV Shows

Hey guys!

We have almost made it to Friday everyone! I decided to do another post with a list in it, and I am going to do a list of books that have either been turned into movies or TV shows. I decided to do this when I watched the new TV show A Discovery of Witches and I fell in love with it. When you hear that your favorite book has been picked up for a movie or television show, there is that trepidation that they are going to ruin your favorite book, but sometimes they bring the book to life.

Lets start the list:

  • A Discovery of Witches

Southern Spirits Review

Happy Friday Readers!

Today I wanted to review a light paranormal book to end the week on a good note. Southern Spirits by Angie Fox, is a novel that gives you all of the emotions. You get ghosts, romance, laughter, and pet skunks. When I started reading this book I honestly couldn't put it down, and stayed up half the night to finish it, because I had to see how it ended.

The book description was taken from the Goodreads website:

"When out of work graphic designer Verity Long accidentally traps a ghost on her property, she’s saddled with more than a supernatural sidekick—she gains the ability to see spirits. It leads to an offer she can’t refuse from the town’s bad boy, the brother of her ex and the last man she should ever partner with.

Ellis Wydell is in possession of a stunning historic property haunted by some of Sugarland Tennessee’s finest former citizens. Only some of them are growing restless—and destructive. He hires Verity put an end to the disturbances. But soon Verity learns there’s more to the mysterious estate than floating specters, secret passageways, and hidden rooms.

There’s a modern day mystery afoot, one that hinges on a decades-old murder. Verity isn't above questioning the living, or the dead. But can she discover the truth before the killer finds her?"

Verity is hated by the town she lives in because she decided to leave her slim ball of a fiancee at the alter. However when she accidentally traps a gangster ghost on her property, her world is turned upside down. When she is with the ghost she is able to see the other side, and see spirits. She learns to use this ability to help Ellis, the town Sheriff and her ex's brother. But will she be able to solve the mystery or will this mystery lead to her doom?

Verity has been put through a lot and has to change her life around to find a new job to support herself, and her pet skunk. You will love Verity and her no nonsense, won't take nobody's crap attitude. You also get to learn why she left the most eligible bachelor at the alter, and may even fall in love with the gangster ghost, Frankie. This book had me laughing out loud, and wishing I had my own gangster ghost to go on adventures with. If you love feel good stories with mystery thrown in, than this book needs to be on your shelf. This is one who done it that you don't want to miss! Plus there is many more adventures to come if you love this one!

Happy spirit hunting my fellow sleuths!

The Cold King Review

Happy Wednesday Readers!

Today I am going to be reviewing The Cold King by Amber Jaeger, which is a different way to look at the story of Beauty and the Beast. This story took me on a wild ride that I had no intention of getting off until I reached the end, which I did lose a lot of sleep reading it, but hey it was 100% worth it.

The description was taken from the Goodreads website:

"From the author of The Hemlock Bay Series comes a new retelling of an old tale…

… Not every Beast is a prince charming at heart and not every Beauty is a maiden just waiting for love…

Calia Thorn has lived her entire life in a small town sheltered by the Cold King’s mountain. Working day and night to care for her younger siblings, complete her unending chores and please her selfish, lazy mother has left her with few dreams for her own future.

But then even those meager hopes are taken from her when the Cold King comes down from his mountain to demand a new servant. Ungraceful, unladylike, undesired and unwanted by even her own family, Calia is chosen to be sent to the palace.

The Cold King has lived for three hundred years under a curse imposed by his own father. With no hope of ever breaking it, he settles for keeping his heart frozen against any pain— or hope.

When his new servant arrives, she challenges him in ways no one ever has and sparks fly. But not every Beast is a prince charming at heart and not every beauty is a maiden just waiting for love.

Sometimes happily ever after isn’t so easy… "

All Calia wants to do is make sure her younger siblings are taken care of, because her mother is too lazy and self absorbed to take care of them herself. Calia doesn't feel appreciated by her family, and it seems that her mother is always trying to get rid of her. When the chance comes to send a new servant to the Cold Kings castle, Calia's mom jumps at the chance for riches, and to get rid of her daughter. When Calia is deposited at the castle, she sees it as a new challenge to escape the life she previously had. However as she gets to know the Cold King she starts to learn that not everything is as it seems, and that just maybe he is as stuck as she is. With both of them in a situation they never wanted or asked for can they help each other survive or be stuck in their unwanted situations forever?

This book is so beautifully written by Amber that the reader is brought on a wild adventure, and with the detailed description, you will be transported into the castle with Calia. What I really loved about this book is it took the story of Beauty and the Beast, and put a spin on it, while keeping to the spirit of the original story. Any lover of Beauty and the Beast  needs to read this amazing story, and get lost in the Cold King's castle.

Happy enchanted adventures my friends!

The Darkest Star Review

Happy Monday Readers!

I hope you all had a wonderful, relaxing weekend! Today I am going to be reviewing a book, that I absolutely loved. The Darkest Star by Jennifer L. Armentrout is the first book in her new Origin series, and let me tell you it's a good start!

The book description comes from the Goodreads website:

"When seventeen-year-old Evie Dasher is caught up in a raid at a notorious club known as one of the few places where humans and the surviving Luxen can mingle freely, she meets Luc, an unnaturally beautiful guy she initially assumes is a Luxen...but he is in fact something much more powerful. Her growing attraction for Luc will lead her deeper and deeper into a world she'd only heard about, a world where everything she thought she knew will be turned on its head...

#1 New York Times, USA Today, and internationally bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout returns to the universe of the Lux in this brand new series, featuring beloved characters both new and old."

Evie Dasher is just a girl trying to survive the world, and get through High School. When she goes to a club where aliens are known to frequent, she meets Luc, who will test her patience. When she stumbles upon Luc she begins a wild journey where the truth will send the world she thought she knew down a spiraling rabbit hole. Once Evie learns the truth, she will have to learn if she can embrace the truth or if she wants to live in denial.

This book brings characters from her previous series into the story, however you don't have to have read the previous series to understand what is going on in this book. I didn't read the previous series, and while I was reading The Darkest Star I wasn't lost as to what was going on. Jennifer provides the reader with a detailed background as to what happened, so that you can feel confident reading this book without reading the previous series. This book had me interested from the first sentence, and kept my attention until the very end. This book will make you laugh, cry, and want to punch Luc a couple of times. When the twists and bombs drop, I guarantee you won't see them coming until Jennifer wants you to!

If you like adventure, comedy, sexy aliens, and a female character who learns who she really is, then this book is for you. It made me want to read the other series, so I can see if Luc was a butt butt in that one too. But trust me, Luc is a butt butt in this one, but there is a reason behind it, and he is actually a sweet guy! I can't wait for the second book to come out to see where Evie and Luc go next!

Happy alien adventures my fellow readers!

The Iron Butterfly Review

Happy Fri-yay!

We have made it to Friday, and I have to work tomorrow, but oh well. Today I am reviewing The Iron Butterfly by Chanda Hahn. This is another book where the main character is in a difficult situation, and has to find the strength to survive a world where someone wants her as an experiment.

The description was taken from the Goodreads website:

"Imprisoned, starved and left with no memories, Thalia awakens to find herself at the mercy of an evil cult known as the Septori. Their leader has chosen Thalia as the test subject for a torture device of untold power, designed to change and twist her into something that is neither human nor Denai.

Escaping, Thalia finds an unwilling warrior to protect her and an unlikely Denai to befriend her. After finding a home at the Citadel as a servant, Thalia’s worst nightmare comes to life and she begins to show signs of power. Scared and unable to control her gifts, she tries to hide her past to fit in among the Denai. But the Septori want their latest test subject back and will stop at nothing to retrieve her, dead or alive."

Thalia just wants to live her life, and doesn't want to become a test subject. She decides that she needs to escape and she needs help to do it. When she finds two guys to help her, she never expects to find love and a twisting journey along the way. Will she be able to hide from the evil cult or will they catch up with her and put her through unimaginable torture?

This novel takes the reader into a world of wonder and intrigue. You will be rooting for her to end up with one person, and than changing your mind in the mist of it. I couldn't put this book down, because I had to know what happened next. I am happy to admit this is one book I stayed up late to finish, and was so happy that it is part of a trilogy. Once I finished this one, I had to buy book two just to continue the journey with characters that I had come to know and love!

Happy Trails Readers!
